← The first 30 seconds: Insurance agent
Tone, pace and permission
How you sound matters as much as what you say.
- Smile while you talk; it changes your voice.
- Slow down slightly in the first 10 seconds; nerves make everyone rush.
- Sound like a peer, not a script: short sentences, natural words.
- Ask for a little time instead of assuming it.
Say this
- “Do you have two minutes now, or is later today better?”
- “If it's not relevant, just tell me and I'll let you go.”
Avoid this
- “This will only take a second! (then talking for five minutes)”
