← The first 30 seconds: Real estate agent

Tone, pace and permission

How you sound matters as much as what you say.

  • Smile while you talk; it changes your voice.
  • Slow down slightly in the first 10 seconds; nerves make everyone rush.
  • Sound like a peer, not a script: short sentences, natural words.
  • Ask for a little time instead of assuming it.

Say this

  • “Do you have two minutes now, or is later today better?”
  • “If it's not relevant, just tell me and I'll let you go.”

Avoid this

  • “This will only take a second! (then talking for five minutes)”
