What happens before the ask

What someone is thinking about just before your request changes how they hear it. Open by focusing attention on the problem you solve or on a shared goal, and your offer lands in a prepared mind. Small word choices matter too: giving a reason ('because…'), turning 'should' into 'could', and using concrete language make requests easier to accept.
